The Diploma Course in Harmonium, under the Swar Vadya stream, is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation in harmonium performance within the framework of Indian classical music. The course aims to develop students' technical proficiency, theoretical understanding, and expressive capability through a structured and progressive curriculum.
Students will engage in systematic practice of 20 Shuddha Swar Alankars, Raag-specific Alankars, and Drut Bandishes or Gats across a range of Raags including Yaman, Bihag, Khamaj, Bheempalasi, Bhoop, Durga, Saarang, Bhairav, and Todi.
These compositions will be performed in various Taals such as Teentaal, Ektaal, Rupak, and Jhaptaal.
The course places particular emphasis on cultivating the ability to perform Alaap and Taan, demonstrate Taals through hand gestures, and render compositions with rhythmic variations such as Dugun.
This holistic approach ensures the development of well-rounded musicianship grounded in classical tradition.
